Pros: Size and Weight, AF speed (for the price), Contrast (better than f1.4 variant), build is as fantastic as plastic can get.
Cons: Hood comes off too easily, random software quirks on my up-to-date XS20, and a VERY snug mount fit.
My first copy was great for a week then it completely glitched my XS20 and caused it to flicker as if it had a short. Did all the tricks as all longtime Fujis know Fujis just sometimes like to stop taking orders. Nothing worked. Every other lens in my kit works flawlessly. From Sigma to XF glass.
Returned for another copy. Will update if the next copy proves to be better and worthy of updating.
QA needs to step up. The thickness of the metal at the mount is borderline too tight to fit on my XS20. This is not a new issue for Viltrox. They had the same issue with the X-Pro3. It got so bad that their glass actually broke the mounts of some X-Pro3 owners.
Buyer beware. Pricing is great, but there may be other issues that lie ahead for this nifty 85mm equivalent.

Lens is very sharp edge to edge, even shot wide open. Excellent color rendering. Focuses quickly and accurately. Very light weight, great addition to my kit. Amazing little lens and not just for the money. Bokeh is very nice and it really makes the subject pop in portraits. Very happy with my purchase. Highly recommended.

I’ve had this lens for a few weeks now and I’ve really enjoyed the results. Using it on a Fuji xs20 the af is fast and pics are sharp at f8. Wide open I like the subject separation and 3dish effect. Would recommend.

This is a staggeringly good lens. It’s sharp across the frame right from wide open and sharper at any aperture than my Fuji 56/1.2R. Colors are the same, contrast is better, and it weighs nothing. Focus is fine in my early tests: silent and quick. The only thing the Fuji does better is background isolation. At equivalent apertures, the Fuji’s bokeh balls are bigger, there’s more blur, and it’s slightly more telephoto in angle of view. And of course, f/1.2 has even more isolation (the Fuji’s trump card is definitely portraiture where isolation trumps detail) and adds a full stop of light gathering. Still, coming from a long history with Canon, Nikon, and Sony, there has never been a better set of optics from a 50-56 f/1.7-f/1.8 lens.

I own the XF 35mm f/1.4 and the Sigma 56 f/1.4 and that is a cracking lens for the price.
This lens at f/1.7 is ridiculously great value for a portrait lens at this price.
Sharpness is great, though I’m pretty sure the lens focus speed will increase with a firmware update.
Taking everything into context, for the construction, focal length and aperture, I can’t believe this only costs what it does.
I’ll be watching out for more Viltrox lenses now that they put this one out.

This Viltrox 56mm f1.7 is a fantastic little lens! It’s lightweight, small, and honestly, well-built and even stylish. Super sharp, even wide open at f1.7, and the brightness is impressive. It’s a joy to use, especially because of how low-profile it is. Whether you’re on a budget or not, this lens holds up against the big names like Sigma or even Fuji’s native lenses. Definitely 100% recommended!

Another amazing lens from Viltrox. I own the Fuji 16-55mm F2.8 which is super sharp but I wanted something that would give me a bot more subject separation – this is it. A cracking lens and amazing value. This is as sharp as my Fuji but this lens gives me the flexibility to open up to F1.7. The lens is plastic but very well made. A welcome addition to any camera bag

The quality you get for this price is unbeatable. Images are spectacular. Well built. Light, so great for travel. This has become one of my favorites lenses. Do I wish for an aperture ring? Sure. But at this price, I wouldn’t expect one.

Ich nutze das Objektiv für Portraits von Menschen und meinem Hund. Die Verarbeitung und die Qualität der Fotos finde ich sehr gut.
Das Objektiv wiegt an meiner Fujifilm XE-3 kaum etwas und ist auch nicht zu groß. Auch an meiner Fujifilm XT-5 sieht es sehr gut aus. Der Autofokus hat an beiden Kameras gut funktioniert.
Für den Preis ist natürlich kein Staub und Spritzwasserschutz enthalten. Das finde ich aber nicht störend. Der einzige Abstrich aus meiner Sicht ist der fehlende BlendenRing. Zum Einstellen der Blende habe ich allerdings meine Knöpfe an den Kameras entsprechend eingestellt.
