I’ve used this camera a few times and think it’s got potential but only as a second camera. It’s taken some decent photos along with plenty of bad ones and realize I’ve got plenty more to learn about it. There’s more of a learning curve than I initially thought and many options are buried in subcategories when they need to be more accessible. Overall this is not an intuitive quick draw point-and-shoot and the buttons are too small.
For example, I tried to get a quick pic of deer crossing the road and the problem of which setting to use and doing so quickly sums up my main issues. There’s a through the window setting, ones for low light, one for action, one for sunset, one for snow, etc. and all of them would have been appropriate. The blurry deer shot I attached was taken with the snow setting, not through a window and at night. I couldn’t capture what I needed and most of my outdoor photos, especially in low light haven’t turned out well. This doesn’t say much for what you’ll get under water.
It does have easy to find features such as bracketing, macro photography, flash off and a timer on the camera but I’d look further for either a main or tough one, more along the lines of the Olympus TG5 (although it died when I cleaned it) which was more user-friendly, easier to hold and took good underwater photos.
I plan to take this Lumix everywhere and have gotten a few good shots, it’s fun to use and I need a lot more time with it.
For now, I can only recommend it as a toy for someone with small hands and fingers and enough patience to explore its features.
Update: I’ve taken this camera underwater many times and even dropped it from my balcony with some light scratches on the built in view finder which may have come from my purse. It’s size and durability make it my go to camera because I always have it on me. It deserves at least four stars and I haven’t even used the high speed settings. I’m going to upload another photo taken recently with the Impressive Art filter because this is an easy to use, fun, reliable camera.

We used this camera on 2 Florida beach vacations, and I let my kids go crazy with it. They captured so many great underwater images at the beach and pool of our family being goofy. We even put it on some rocks and recorded the waves coming in. I wish this camera was still being sold as I would buy it in blue. We have the red version. This allows you to leave the phone behind and focus on family memories and capture some great shots. It is a rugged little camera!

Found this to be a very good snorkeling camera – it’s tiny and doesn’t get in the way.
Good battery performance too – much better than I read about/expected. I kept it on for about 30-50 minutes at a time, taking about 120 photos on each trip, and did not have to replace the battery (though I did bring extras).
My advice is to take the photos in Regular mode (at best quality), then process your favs on your phone in PS Express or Lightroom Mobile to do the color correction. “Underwater mode” doesn’t know how much blue/green to remove, as it doesn’t know how much water is between you and the subject (every pic will be different).
We loved this little camera overall!

The camera is wonderful. I like that the lens does not protrude out so it doesn’t get damaged when zooming in & out. You have to charge using the charger and not USB cord which was different from my other camera but still ok. I like that it is waterproof as I leave it hanging from a little bag on my bike for quick access. I always forget to take it out so it is safe now. Takes nice photos too.

Quite a few reviews say this camera is not waterproof, but I haven’t had any issues with that at all. I’ve used it quite a bit the past few months – in the ocean, a river, a lake, at the beach, etc – and haven’t experienced any trouble. I do make sure that the rubber seal is in good condition and that there are no foreign bodies inhibiting the closure, which is what the manual says you should to (and is common sense). I am quite pleased with the picture quality. I have a very nice Canon with an expensive lens to compare it to so the pictures of course aren’t National Geographic quality, but for what this camera is and the price I think the pictures turn out quite nice. The video quality could be better, but again for the price I’m happy with it. You can sometimes hear the mechanical noises from the camera in the video, but I’ve had that with every camera that I’ve videotaped with.
There are actually LOTS of settings on this little camera! I was pleasantly surprised. There are 9 different modes to take picture/video, plus 13 options under “scene mode” (portrait, soft skin, scenery, night portrait, night scenery, food, baby 1, baby 2, pet, sunset, high sensitivity, starry sky, glass through), plus under “creative control” there are 12 options (expressive, retro, high key, low key, sepia, dynamic monochrome, impressive art, high dynamic, cross process, toy effect, miniature effect, one point color). I don’t think there is any other underwater camera with this many options, unless to get into the $500+ category. Overall I’m very happy with this purchase and plan to use it quite frequently.

I’m checking 5 stars because I love Lumix but just ordered and haven’t received this yet, I’ve had Lumix for years and loved the size and convenience and wonderful quality of the pictures. It picked up colors that my phone camera just couldn’t. Alas, I dropped my sweet little camera in the ocean a few weeks ago, so now I’m getting a waterproof one!! I’ve shopped and read until my brain was about to explode and decided on this little beauty. Can’t wait to get it!!!!! I’ll let you know if it lives up to my experience with Lumix.
I received my new Lumix just in time for a play our grandson was going to be in. I was surprised at how small this is, it will go anywhere in a pocket or a purse. The pictures seemed to be of good quality and the colors were nice and bright. I was able to take video and got good picture as well as good sound. I have two concerns, one is the location of the aperture location is in a place that is natrual to hold the camera with the left hand, of course that means fingers in the picture, so that’s something I’ll have to learn to watch out for. And the zoom, I tried to zoom in on my grandson, which the camera did, but it was very grainy and slightly out of focus. It was indoors and maybe the lighting was not good enough for a better shot. That being said, I think I’ll enjoy this little camera.
