50mm is such a great lens for a beginner or amateur photographer. F1.8 will do an amazing job. The motor is not that smooth when auto focus is on but again for the price, this should be fine.

  2. Amar

I was looking for a 50mm lense. This lense is fantastic and serving purpose. Cheap as well as compared to other similar lenses

  3. C. King

I got this lens thinking I would use it occasionally for some night shots, and some portraits. I didn’t think I would get as much use out of it as I do.While it is true that the autofocus is slower than my other sony lens, and it’s somewhat audible, it is sharp, when you’re using it

  4. craft4u

Everything is great – easy to put on and take off, fits well, focuses well. Pictures are sharp and the f1.8 works in low light. This was a gift for my husband and he is delighted with it.

  5. DMAC2652

Very sharp lens, fair priced, good all around lens for learning especially.
Very good aperture range makes it very versatile.
Makes it easy to get closer or pan out for your framing (you move instead of zoom in/out)
a good way to learn with a fixed Prime.

  6. Humboldt123

This lens is exactly what I needed for my camera kit. It is light, well built and gives me sharp pictures.

  7. Sabik TS

its an expensive lens which i dont mind too much even though a 50 1.8 should be much cheaper than this, its sharp enough for what it is however I found the focusing to be painfully slow, Im not one to shoot test charts and do random tests but my a7iii was having trouble keeping focus on a moving subject, which even the kit lens can do so for my style of shooting I had to return

  8. Khan Muhammad Sadi Abhik

As a first-time buyer of a 50mm lens, I was surprised by its small size and initially felt it seemed cheaply made. I tested it with the a7R IV and a7 III in AF-S mode. Each time the lens focused, the motor seemed to reset itself and then move, causing very loud noise, and I almost initiated a return. However, when I switched to AF-C mode, the motor operated much more smoothly, and the noise was significantly reduced. Using it with the a7 III, the results exceeded my expectations for a $200 lens. The image quality is amazing, except that in out-of-focus area the chromatic aberration is quite obvious. However, I am quite happy with it.

Like the title suggest this is a great budget lens. It works great for the price and what you may use it for. I have had ZERO issues with it and take some great pictures for my skill level. This is no pro level lens so I wouldn’t suggest it for that type of use; but for my beginners the weight, size and portability are great for the price.

Bought it because I wasn’t going to let the aportunity to pass me by. Was at a good price and it’s a great lense. Good tool for the price it was at the time.

  12. Zane Smith

Everyone needs this lens in their kit. It the cheapest great quality prime lens Sony has ever released in my opinion. Photos always come out looking crisp and clear with that classic bokeh look. The auto focus is fast and accurate. The lens is compact and lightweight. The one drawback is it is a bit noisy when focusing. A small price to pay for the quality of the stills. This may be the niftiest fifty i’ve ever owned!

I purchased this for my girlfriend to use with her Sony a7 ii. The image quality is fantastic, including great autofocus, night lighting, and bokeh. It’s incredible how well it works given the price point. This lens is great and I highly recommend it!
